Setting: San Diego,USA

In the Research Centre...

Just as the researchers were carrying their discussion on something, the mellow voice of the head of the company interrupted their discussion as he walked towards them...

Head (Jude): Ahem.. hem..

All the researchers immediately stopped their discussion and looked at Jude intently...

Jude: I'm here to introduce a junior geologist to our research centre...

As he said this, a gentle looking, fair-skinned Japanese girl stood right before their eyes..

Girl (watcher): Hai! Ogenki Desuka? How are you? My name is Kyuko (Sorry, I just anyhow created one myself..)

(John) Researcher: Yoz! So you're a Jap?

watcher: Hai!

(Gary): Jap women are nice people yeah?

As they said this, they broke out into laughter...

watcher stood there, embarrassed...

Jude: Okay guys, we have to get moving on our investigation... An earthquake just occurred along the San Andreas' fault.. We have to get moving.. By the way, why isn't ken here?

John: He just went to the lavatory to relieve himself..

Jude: I see I see.. Tell him to get ready once he comes back..

watcher: Sorry, but what about me? Am I supposed to follow you guys?

Jude: Yes Miss watcher...

watcher looked nervous and appeared pretty unnatural in front of the rest of the colleagues..

Just then, ken entered the room..

Gary: Hi ken buddy! We've got a sweetie here joining us from today..

Sandra (Researcher): Phmmz..Just any normal girl I guess..

ken: Welcome abroad miss...Er, how should I address you?

watcher: I'm Miss Kyuko..You are?

ken: I see, Miss K..yuka? Kyuok?

The rest broke into laughter...

Jude: It's K-Y-U-K-O, buddy!

ken: I'm sorry, Miss Kyuko..(Finally perfecting the pronounciation)

I'm ken, and American Born Chinese here..

watcher: I see...

Gary: Okay guys, we have to get moving now..

They got ready and set off to the area that suffered from the earthquake..

ken: This is sure serious yeah?

watcher: Yes...

ken: Apparently this earthquake is caused along the conservative boundary..

Jude: Ha! Just like watcher..

As he said this, he whispered into ken's ear..

Jude (Whispering): This girl likes you, look at the way she looks at you...

ken: Stop your nonsense will you? Be more serious..

Jude: hehe..

As watcher trudged along the debris, she lost her balance and accidentally fell onto the ground.. Unfortunately, a glass fragment pierced into her knee flesh..

watcher: Ouch!

ken immediately walked towards her and examined her wound..

ken: This is gonna be troublesome, young lady..

Due to the unbearable pain, tears started to flow from watcher's eyes..

ken: Hush Hush, young lady.. You'll be alright..

watcher: ......

ken: I need to use some oil medication...Just bear with it okay?

watcher nodded her head, she was still trying hard to keep herself from crying..

watcher thought to herself: I must be strong..

She began to think of her parents, especially her mother, who died in an accident 12 years ago.. She could still vividly remember what her mother said to her on that faithful day..

watcher's mother: Life must still go on, my dear..

watcher: Mum.. Mum..(weeping)

watcher's mother: Sigh.. I'll have to leave this world sooner or later.. It's just a matter of time.. Everyone must die..

watcher: Mum....sob..

watcher's mother: My time has come...Remember, you must be strong, no matter what happens, life must still go on.. Do not be discouraged in times of difficulty and peril.. I'll always be there for you...

watcher: ....

watcher's mother: Your father and brother were killed by the kidnappers...In order to save your life, your father was willing to do anything.. As long as you can live..

watcher: Mum.. Don't say that...(still weeping)

watcher's mother: I have to go now, dear.. Take care.. Remember, be strong...

As watcher's mother said that, she finally stopped breathing..

watcher: ..Mum.. Mum.....(crying)

ken: Miss Kyuko, Miss Kyuko?

watcher's line of thought was interrupted by ken...

ken: I've finished applying and pasted a piece of plaster.. You'll be fine..

ken gave a promising smile, at that moment, watcher was grateful..

She returned a smile..

As ken walked away, she looked at him.... Tears started to flow..

She had never felt the love she needed since her mother died.. She had went through much.. And now, she really felt loved.. Yes.. and loved by someone who could cause the change in her life...As his shadow faded, she looked up into the sky and closed her eyes...It was a new beginning..
